Dammit! Dammit! Dammit!
Note to self: Double-check TiVo on important nights and always wear clean underwear.
I missed the crowning!!!! All these weeks I've been watching, waiting, formulating posts, poking fun at Trick, reminding others to tune in...and for what? To be riding down the highway 30 minutes from home at 9PM when they announce the new American Idol. Sonofabitch!!!
I should have made sure either last night or this morning that the TiVo was set for tonight. But why? I'd be home by 6:10 or so, eat dinner and be ready to enjoy the festivities by 7. Right? Such was the case, until around 10 this morning. A good friend and co-worker was driving home and had a head-on collision with, not one but TWO other vehicles. Another passenger car and an 18-wheeler. He was pinned in the vehicle for some time while they cut the other person out of the other car because his injuries were more serious at the moment. My buddy was sitting in his truck with the engine nearly in his LAP. He had a compound fracture (bone protruding thru the skin) of the lower right leg but was otherwise in pretty good shape. Seat belts and airbags do indeed work wonders. Not to mention a 500+ pound "cow-catcher" brush guard on the front of his truck, assimilant to those on a train without the lower half. But he was rushed to the local hospital for the initial assessment and then transported to the hospital near my office for emergency orthapedic surgery. My wife and daughter came up after work and met me at the hospital around 6PM. We visited with the family and friends until they called and said he was out of surgery and all was well. They were moving him to a room when we left at 7:10. I had already camped out under the TV in the waiting room and was content to stay for a while. But alas, my contentment was short-lived. The women were ready to go. A quick calculation on my part.. (7:10PM + 50 min drive home =8PM - 1 hour of a 2-hour finals show = 1 more hour left. The hour with the announcement in it, at that) Perfect!! Let's roll!!
And roll we did. Right to my wife's favorite steakhouse for dinner. (Insert frustarted husband look here) And the whole time we're eating, I'm trying to remember "Is the TiVo set to record at least the first hour? Was it set last week or did I have to back it up and start recording? Who's around the house that I can call to go hit Record for me?" OK, not the WHOLE time we're eating. We did enjoy each other's company over dinner as we rarely all eat at the same time around a table. It's usually in front of the TV.
So we leave the restaurant around 8:20 or so and get behind some poke-ass traffic in a construction (aka No Passing) zone and it's 9:20 when I get here. ONLY to find that my fears had been warranted. Nothing!! Sonofabitch!!
So what do I do? I turn to Blogdom to find out who won. First blog opened..Title of the post? Alabama Is Where Idols Come From. I knew right away who had won it. But it wasn't the same!!! It's like meeting your buddies on the sidewalk outside a diner and them telling how good the food was and all you can do is look at the empty dishes on the table thru the window. So I read the post really quick. McBoobies on parade? And I missed it? Sonofabitch!!
Oh well. I'll just go in here and watch the TV Guide Channel with ex-Idol contestant Kimberly Caldwell (who's also a cutie) and get the highlights.
I guess the most important thing is that my friend is gonna be OK. Right? Right? And that I was there as a gesture of support in a time of crisis? Right?
G'night Idol fans.
PS. Now that Idol is done, what the heck am I gonna blog about? Oh yeah, that new show...So You Think You Can Dance looks pretty funny.

Glad I could help you out with a LIVE update. Who's your buddy now that TiVo has let you down? ;)
I even watched it...knowing that Chris would be back and all. How great was he with Live??? Oh wait, you missed it.
Sorry you missed the show. Glad your friend is doing well. Did someone already mention the McBoobies making several appearances? =)
