Now Who's the Boss?

So yesterday was THE day apparently. Moving day once again. Yeah, the move that I wasn't going to help with. But was already prepared to do so anyway. Because I was expecting our 20-yr old "Boss" to be waiting with a handful of orders and not the first box moved.

Guess what? I got off SO easy!! I got home and had to go with her (the daughter) to the storage unit for about 5-6 boxes that were to come back here to stay in "her old room" (that just happens to still have a bed and dresser and nightstand in it. Think she's trying to keep a foot in the door?). It seems as though she convinced about 4-5 of her friends/cousins/work-release inmates to help her move all day long. When I get here, it's practically done! She loads her car up with everything that'll fit and is ready go.
I put the only 2 things that wouldn't fit in her car (end table and jewelry box) in our Suburban and we followed her to her new place.
Once there, I unloaded BOTH of the things from our truck and took them inside. My moving was completed!
They've got a really nice place. 4 BR/2 bath with a nice-sized front yard and a really nice back yard. And it's within walking distance of the campus, even for them. We're talking 2 blocks from the stadium! Can you say "Free Parking" and "Kick-Ass Tailgate Party" on Game Days?
I did do a few "daddy" things for her like hook up her PC and DVD player and get all the technical stuff situated for them while my wife helped her get all of her "girly things" done, like the dust ruffles on the bed and all that useless crap stuff. One of her roommates was complaining that her room was unusually hot compared to the rest of the house so I checked it out for her. Turns out the air deflector in the ceiling was closed from the inside and what little air was making it through was blowing against the wall. I took the register down and did a little adjusting, reversed it and put it back up. In 10 minutes, the temp had dropped at least 10 degrees in there. Problem solved. I found a short in the light on the back porch and told them to be sure to leave it off tonight and to call the landlord first thing in the morning to get that fixed. We sat down and talked with the girls for a few minutes and then headed back home. Home to a nice quiet house again. A house with 1/3 less laundry. With more parking space in the garage. With more food in the pantry. With no more bitching when I want to use MY computer.

So...now that it's just the wife and myself....Who's the Boss? I think we'll just wait and see if we even NEED a boss now. We always do pretty good when left alone to manage the household.

Oh and another thing...We had to swing by Wal-Mart on the way home to grab a few staple items. While there, my cell rings. It's the "Boss". She asked where we were. I told her. Then asked her if everything was OK and if she needed anything.

"No, I was just curious where ya'll were."

Wasn't it so nice of her to let us stay up 'til 11PM?
