Numero Uno HNT

I visit a few blogs regularly that participate in Half-Nekkid Thursday. I think the whole concept of "nekkid" as opposed to "naked" is pretty cool (not that I'm opposed to a lilttle nakedness all along). I think I'm going to try this HNT thing for a while. Maybe not every week but at least when I can. So, this will be my very first HNT submission, trying to hitch a ride on the HNT bandwagon.

I would also like to "point out" (pardon the pun) the nick on my thumb.

If you're a regular reader, you'll know I killed a deer last Saturday. That post is just below this one. I spent about 3 hours on Sunday afternoon preparing the meat to be made into jerky. This involves boning, trimming, slicing, etc. Lots of knife work. I guess I should mention that I keep all of my knives nearly surgically-sharp. And it never fails that if I kill a deer, or help a buddy that kills one, somewhere along the way, I'll always manage to at least nick myself. I did manage to skin the deer, quarter the meat and cape the hide for the taxidermist on Saturday without injury. And I hate to admit it, but I was almost proud of myself when I was finished and washing everything up and realized I hadn't cut myself. Our daughter had invited us to the game Saturday afternoon so I put the meat in the outside refrigerator, hopped in the shower and then we headed on over to her house, Band-Aid free.
Then Sunday rolled around and I started on the prep work for the jerky. I used both hindquarters which would weigh around 35-40 pounds together. After the bones were removed and all the fat, tendons, etc. were trimmed away, I wound up with about 15-20 pounds of perfectly lean venison, ready for the dehydrator.

Along with the customary nick that I had managed to elude the day before.

You're officially part of the HNT crew now! I haven't participated in weeks and not sure I will again - time will only tell. I think I showed more than I really should have and now I'm reluctant to post anything.

Oh well.

Your first was a good one! And I'm sorry you nicked your finger but hey, it woudln't have been part of the tradition if you hadn't right? :) Glad it's not a bad one though. And do I get any of that jerky I keep reading about over here????
